We got a break in the weather yesterday so Deb went down to the pasture to spend some time with the horses. They were eager to get out to graze. They were close to the fence that sections off Favorito's pasture so Alexios took some time to interact with his dad.
At first things were very sweet between them. Alexios made all the appropriate submissive gestures, and Favorito approved.

They stood together, Favorito keeping watch while Alexios grazed.

They strolled together down the fence line. Poesia and Anastacia were close by but didn't seem at all perturbed by their interaction.

Right after this nose sniffing. Alexios decided that he would try to act the little stallion with his father. He can be a bit too full of himself and chose the wrong moment to display that.

Favorito decided that he needed a lesson in what it really means to be a stallion. He can be quite impressive with his displays.

Alexios was promptly put in his place.

It is times like these that he turns to Mom for comfort.

Nothing like a good, long drink to make life a little better.

He meekly wandered back over to Favorito, this time to be the student of the stallion.

And a footnote for those that are interested. Alexios is now shedding on his neck - if you look closely you can see the darker brown starting to come through.

And I passed a sign for Paso Finos for sale. Man, what I wouldn't give ...
I did see that about the Paso Finos - pretty soon that little girl of yours will be old enough to beg, plead and cajole for a horse so maybe you should just circumvent all that and have one ready for her :)
He is so cute!
It amazes me how they interact
And yes, he is one very fine fellow who has earned his stallion stomping rights. This was actually a very gentle lesson - he could have given Alexios a good nip for acting with such insolence.
Thanks for sharing with Gather's Best. Now featured.
It's fascinating to watch the interactions of Favorito with his family band. Through out this series of articles you've skillfully captured them speaking "Equus" - the body language of horses. Alexios is quickly learning to "talk the talk" and "walk the walk" through his progressive interactions with each horse in the band. What a marvelous book this is going to make!
Thanks Tonia!
Thanks so much for sharing with my group.
And his youngster is a sweetie.
Your posts always remind me how much there is to admire about the flowing lines and coloration of a horse.
